alesana

Alesana (pronounced /ˈælɨs ˈænə/ Alice-Anna) is an American rock band from Raleigh, North Carolina. Formed in 2004, the group is currently signed to Epitaph Records and have released one EP and four full-length studio albums. The band gained a wide audience after their debut, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax was released, featuring a musical style shifting between light and heavy sounds along with a wide influence ranging to even classic rock bands such as The Beatles. Their band name is derived from street named Aliceanna St., which is located in Baltimore where the group originated.

Formation and Try This with Your Eyes Closed (2004–2005)

Although the band's members first began playing together in Baltimore,[1] Maryland, Alesana officially formed in October 2004 in Raleigh, North Carolina and was founded by Shawn Milke, Patrick Thompson, Dennis Lee, Steven Tomany and Daniel Magnuson. The name of the band is inspired from Aliceanna St., which Shawn Milke and Patrick Thompson lived on when playing in Baltimore, MD. Aliceanna St. is located in Fells Point, a neighborhood in Baltimore. Alesana was the first band to join Tragic Hero Records in 2005,[2] and their 3 demo songs titled "Apology", "Beautiful in Blue" and "Goodbye, Goodnight for Good" were featured on the compilation All The Tragedy Money Can Buy. In May 2005 they released their debut EP, Try This With Your Eyes Closed. Alesana then toured across the United States, including an appearance at the Cornerstone Festival, despite not being a Christian band. In the same year, founding drummer Daniel Magnuson was replaced by Will Anderson.

On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax (2006–2008)

In 2006 the group added a new drummer Jeremy Bryan to replace Will Anderson and added guitarist/vocalist Adam Ferguson to their lineup.[1] They followed with a full-length album, entitled On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax, produced by Kit Walters, during the summer of 2006. In late 2006 Alesana signed to Fearless Records, which re-released their LP in March 2007 to mixed reviews and released a music video for "Ambrosia". In the same year, the song "Apology" in an acoustic version was featured on the compilation release, Punk Goes Acoustic 2. The group played the entire Warped Tour 2007, but following afterward, bassist Steven Tomany left Alesana.
In early 2008, On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax charted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, peaking at #44.[3]

Where Myth Fades to Legend (2008-2009)

In 2008, Alesana finished recording their second album, Where Myth Fades to Legend. It was released on June 3, 2008, but was leaked on popular torrent sites a month beforehand. Where Myth Fades to Legend was also the title of their headlining tour with Sky Eats Airplane, Our Last Night, Lovehatehero, and The Chariot that supported the album. At the time of preparing for the record a year before, the band lacked an official bass player. Shane Crump, who previously played in a band named Your Name in Vain and originally a merchandise salesman for Alesana, was invited into the group after an audition, thus making the record Crump's debut. The record is also the first to feature Shawn Milke's sister, Mellissa, whom performs all female vocals.
On the 2008 Warped Tour, Shane Crump briefly left due to personal matters at home and Jake Campbell (Twelve Gauge Valentine guitarist) became a temporary fill in-bassist. Upon Crump's return, Adam Ferguson and the band parted ways and Cambell became rhythm guitarist.
On January 20, 2009 the music video for "Seduction" was officially released and on March 10, 2009 the album Punk Goes Pop 2 was released which includes Alesana's cover of "What Goes Around...Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake. Alesana's Where Myth Fades to Legend has also charted on the Billboard 200 at #96 and on the Billboard Hard Rock Album at #13.

The Emptiness (2009-2010)

In late February, Shawn Milke announced Alesana had started writing new material for their upcoming album. They began recording their third studio album, in July 2009, in Portland, Oregon, with producer Kris Crummett. The album, according to Shawn Milke on The Rave TV, would be entitled The Emptiness.[4] The band has made their progress in the studio viewable to fans through a Twitter account and an official website run by the band themselves. Concluding the band's recording session, which began on July 10, Alesana then set out for North Carolina to rest before they began their Vs. tour, which they headlined and included the bands The Bled, Enter Shikari, Broadway, Madina Lake, and Asking Alexandria. On the Vs. tour, Alesana's set included two new songs titled "To Be Scared By An Owl" and "The Thespian". Soon after concluding their month long Vs. tour, Alesana headlined the "You'd Be Way Cuter in a Coffin" Tour with From First to Last, Asking Alexandria, The Word Alive and Memphis May Fire.
On October 15, Milke and Lee held a second interview with The Rave, where they revealed that they were shooting a music video in the fall for one song from The Emptiness. The two members went on to tell Linda, the interviewer, that due to their large fan base in Mexico and South America, they would be releasing a Spanish version of 2 of their songs. Milke also revealed that the album, The Emptiness, was to be released on January 26, 2010.[5] On November 23, Alesana released their first recorded work off of The Emptiness, "To Be Scared By An Owl" and began to promote it as a single.[6] The same week, they entered the studio to begin filming their third video which according to their website, is "The Thespian", the song was released on December 8, 2009. In 2009, Alesana won the Best Hardcore/Screamo Band at the Rock on Request Awards.[7] The band were also invited to play "To Be Scared by an Owl" live on The Daily Habit.[8]
After the release of their music video for "The Thespian" on March 17, the group became less active while promoting the 2010 Warped Tour, which they took part in at the end of June.[9] Right before their first venue on the Warped Tour, guitarist Jake Campbell left the band to be with his family, and Alex Torres of Greeley Estates took his place.[10] Upon the release of The Emptiness, it debuted at #68 on the Billboard 200, which made it the best selling release by the band during this period.
On July 22, 2010, Milke made a statement on the official Revolver website, regarding his constant desire to write scripts, stories and music; considering The Emptiness his 'first printed story'. Milke went on to say that he is constantly writing, and that new material for an Alesana album—as well as material for Wake Me Up, Juliet and Tempting Paris—was already being created.[11] After The Emptiness's recording, the group announced a headlining tour entitled: Two Frail Weeks of Vanity and Wax, in which they performed On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax in its entirety on each date of the tour, along with confirming that some songs would never be played live again after these concerts. In November of 2010, Alesana departed from Fearless and signed to Epitaph Records.[12]

A Place Where the Sun Is Silent (2011–present)

During the beginning of 2011, the band confirmed that plans for a new record were already in the works. Alesana stated that chosen VIP's were involved within the testing of new tracks that were prepared to be included on their fourth studio album. These trackings were recorded during March 2011 with producer Kris Crummett.[13] By the beginning of that summer, Alesana completely finished the record's recording sessions. Alex Torres, Shane Crump, and Dennis Lee shortly thereafter confirmed that the mixing was finished as well and that they had the first master copies published. The name of the album was then announced to be titled, A Place Where the Sun Is Silent, and was released on October 18.[14]
Before its release, promotion for the record was supported by many magazines, websites and other publications. August 24, 2011 had Alternative Press premiere the first leaked song from the album, entitled "A Gilded Masquerade".[15] September 20th had Buzznet streaming "A Forbidden Dance" on their website as part of a contest for a lyric video.[16]
The album thematizes Dante Alighieri's 14th-century epic poem, Inferno.[17] On December 20, 2011, the song "Circle VII: Sins of the Lion" was voted the best song of 2011 by readers of Revolver.[18]
In May of 2012, Lee began a four-pierce side band named Child of the Jackyl with members of the thrash metal band Vanisher.

Blessthefall is an American post-hardcore band from Phoenix, Arizona, currently signed to Fearless Records. The band was founded in 2003 by guitarist Mike Frisby, drummer Matt Traynor, and bassist Jared Warth. Their debut album, His Last Walk, with original vocalist Craig Mabbitt, was released April 10, 2007. Their second studio album, Witness, with current vocalist Beau Bokan, was released October 6, 2009. Their third studio album, Awakening, was released on October 4, 2011.

  • Craig Mabbitt - lead vocals (2003-2008)
  • Miles Bergsma - lead guitar (2003-2005)

Origins and His Last Walk (2003-2007)

Blessthefall grew out of high school practice sessions consisting of guitarist Mike Frisby, guitarist Miles Bergsma, drummer Matt Traynor, bassist and screamer Jared Warth, and later, vocalist Craig Mabbitt. After founding member Miles Bergsma left to attend college at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, they released a three-track EP in mid-2005 and added guitarist Eric Lambert to form their first solid line-up.[4] Phoenix-area gigs with Greeley Estates and an openly religious orientation got the band local press and a deal with Warner subsidiary, Science Records.[6] The band then toured with Alesana and Norma Jean across the United States and Canada.[7] Their debut album, His Last Walk, was released on April 10, 2007, to mixed reviews.[8][9][10] The band completed the entire 2007 Warped Tour circuit nationwide.[7] His Last Walk peaked at No. 32 on the U.S. Billboard Heatseekers chart.[11]
Blessthefall toured with Escape the Fate, LoveHateHero, Before Their Eyes, and Dance Gavin Dance on the Black On Black tour during September and October 2007, they were also part of the Underground Operations Tour And Loathing Tour 2007, opening for Protest The Hero and All That Remains, along with fellow opening bands, Threat Signal and the Holly Springs Disaster, and were a part of From First to Last's fall headlining tour, starting November 1 with A Skylit Drive and Vanna.

Mabbitt's departure and Bokan's induction (2008–2009)

While on their first European tour (with Silverstein) in late 2007, Craig Mabbitt left the band during the United Kingdom portion to spend more time with his daughter, whose childhood he felt he was missing out on. For the remainder of the tour, Jared Warth filled in for vocals while playing bass. When Mabbitt later attempted to return to Blessthefall, the band members decided not to let him back in, preferring to move on without him. On December 15, 2007, Blessthefall posted a blog on their MySpace announcing their parting ways with Mabbitt while Mabbitt posted a bulletin on his personal MySpace stating his willingness to return to the band. Despite the departure, Mabbitt remained great friends with Blessthefall and Beau Bokan.
After the European tour, Blessthefall decided to look for a temporary fill in bass player so that Jared Warth could concentrate on vocals. Aiden Louis, vocalist of Dear Whoever, was added to the group to fill in the bass and backup vocals. This was their new lineup for Taste of Chaos 2008.
In early 2008, Blessthefall released a new video for the song "Rise Up" from the album His Last Walk. The video, (directed by Travis Kopach), is the first to not include Mabbitt.
Mabbitt has stated that the day after he finished recording his first album with Escape the Fate, This War Is Ours, he got a phone call from Blessthefall's management asking him to return to the band, but he refused.[12] Mabbitt felt there was too much bad blood with their management. He also felt the band knew he had just finished a new album and that it was just bad timing, especially when Mabbitt begged to be back in for the previous eight months.[12]
Shortly after this on September 26, 2008 the band announced that Beau Bokan was the new lead singer, he was the former lead-singer for the band Take the Crown, a group who released an EP and a full-length album but broke up because of a lack of management.[13][14]

Witness (2009–2010)

During the month of February, the band announced on their MySpace page that they would head into the studio in May 2009 after their tour with Silverstein, Norma Jean, and Before Their Eyes. On May 13 the band announced on their MySpace page and video blogs that they signed to Fearless Records.
On June 3, the band announced via MySpace that they were officially finished with the recording of their new album and that it was to be released in the fall. At the beginning of their tour with August Burns Red and Enter Shikari, they announced that the album would be titled Witness. In July, Blessthefall released a song clip on their MySpace blog titled "God Wears Gucci", released on iTunes for download on August 11, 2009. In September 2009, the band uploaded another track on their MySpace page titled "What's Left of Me". The album was released October 6, 2009.
In June 2010 Blessthefall toured New Zealand in support of Saosin, and in Australia in support of Story of the Year and Saosin. Blessthefall played across Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
After the release of Witness, the band co-headlined the Atticus Fall Tour with Finch, Drop Dead, Gorgeous, and Vanna from October 10, 2009 through to November 19. Other bands on the tour included Of Mice & Men and Let’s Get It.
In October 2009, the band announced on YouTube that they were working on a music video for "What's Left of Me", which was released December 14 on MySpace Metal.
On January 26, 2010, Greeley Estates released No Rain, No Rainbow, featuring guest vocals by Blessthefall vocalists Beau Bokan and Jared Warth. The album also features guest vocals from former vocalist of Blessthefall, and present vocalist of Escape the Fate, Craig Mabbitt.
The band was featured on the Punk Goes Classic Rock album released April 27, 2010 covering "Dream On" by Aerosmith.
Their song, "To Hell and Back," released on Witness, was released on the soundtrack to Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction. The game trailer was released on April 9, 2010.[15]
They released a music video for their song "To Hell and Back" on July 21, 2010, and were then in the process of recording a music video for "Hey Baby, Here's That Song You Wanted", confirmed through their Twitter. The band was holding a contest to see who could make the best fan-made video to be included in the final music video.
The music video for "Hey Baby, Here's That Song You Wanted" was released on November 4, 2010, and is a short film directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. It is a parody of the 2009 comedy The Hangover, as all of the members wake up unaware of what happened the night before in a messy room, a naked man jumps out from the back of Beau Bokan's car and starts attacking him, and towards the end when Jared Warth pulls out his phone at Eric Lambert's wedding, showing pictures of the night before. The music video also references the movie Dude, Where's My Car?, when Beau Bokan asks where his car is and Mike Frisby responds, "Dude, it's right there."

Awakening (2011–present)

On February 15, 2011, the band announced that Mike Frisby left the band to pursue another path. Elliott Gruenberg, formerly of Legacy, will be permanently on guitar.[16]
Bokan confirmed that Blessthefall would not play at Warped Tour 2011, but rather would be recording their third full length album. Recording began in Orlando, Florida in May 17, 2011.[17] Michael "Elvis" Baskette, who produced their previous album, also produced this effort.[18][19]
The band had hoped to feature guest vocalists including Ronnie Radke of Falling in Reverse, and Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying,[20] but it was later confirmed that there would be no guest vocals.[21]
The album title, Awakening, artwork and track list were announced on July 21. They released the song "Bottomfeeder" on August 4 and the album's first single, "Promised Ones", was released August 16,[citation needed] and the second, "40 Days...", on September 15.[citation needed] The latter involves no screaming from Jared.
Blessthefall joined Emmure, Alesana, Motionless in White and other bands on the All Stars Tour in the late summer.[22] The band will headline the Fearless Friends tour with The Word Alive, Motionless in White, Tonight Alive, and Chunk! No Captain Chunk!.[23]
They released the official video of "Promised Ones" on November 11, 2011,[24] which starts with the intro song of the album titled Awakening. The video is about members of the band uniting rebels and preparing themselves for war.[citation needed]
According to a video interview with Eric and Beau, blessthefall plans entering the studio in February to record an EP with Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying.[25] Later it was confirmed by Matt Traynor that it's not true.[26] Due to time restraints they had to put off the recording of the EP until after Vans Warped Tour.[citation needed] Plans for this EP have since been scrapped according to guitarist, Eric Lambert in an interview with Bryan Stars.

Bring Me The Horizon

It's not often scene kids, screamo fans and metal-heads can agree on a band, but after Bring Me The Horizon's explosive rise in popularity, culminating in their breakout performances at Vans Warped Tour this summer, fans of all three genres have found their new favorite band. With a wildly-anticipated new album and a full U.S. tour on the way, Britain's hottest up-and-comers are on track to conquer the country this fall.
Hailing from Sheffield, England, Oliver Sykes (vocals), Matt Nicholls (drums), Curtis Ward (guitar), Matt Kean (bass) and Lee Malia (guitar) formed BMTH in 2004 and began setting the UK ablaze with blistering performances across the country. By 2006 the band had already won Kerrang!'s "Best British Newcomers" award and toured with groups like Killswitch Engage, Aiden and Bleeding Through. Later that fall the group unleashed their debut album, Count Your Blessings, which further cemented their place among the metalcore elite.
In April 2008 the group entered the studio with legendary producer Fredrik Norstrom (Arch Enemy, In Flames, At the Gates) in an isolated area of Sweden, where they recorded their sophomore album, Suicide Season.
BMTH's experiences over the past few years, for better or worse, have shaped them into more passionate musicians, no longer content with ten tracks of straight up chugging and screaming (although ferociously heavy tracks such as "Sleep with One Eye Open" and "No Need For Introductions..." remain). Instead, the vocals are more varied, guitars more atmospheric and the drums are a pure driving force. BMTH have opted to explore the limits of their sound and abilities, resulting in tracks that will make you think as much as bang your head.
Suicide Season's opening track, "The Comedown," foreshadows the album's brutal intentions with sharp chainsaw riffs, pistol-whipping beats and snarling vocals that will send fans into a windmilling frenzy. The album's immediacy continues with songs like the moody hardcore meltdown "Chelsea Smile" and the prog-screamo sing along "The Sadness Will Never End," and doesn't let up until the last notes of the album-ending title track. Suicide Season is the perfect soundtrack to a life spent on the edge, where the rules don't apply and darkness rules. November is Suicide Season...
